This tour is packed full of history as you leave from the historic Jacob Rohrbach Inn, visit Antietam National Battlefield, a protected area which commemorates a significant battle of the American Civil War, travel through little-traveled, paved country roads, visit Harpers Ferry, a historic town across the Potomac River and the site of John Brown’s raid, and cycle on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath which travels along the C&O Canal and parallels the majestic Potomac River. The C&O Towpath section of this tour is unpaved but easily cycled, the terrain is moderately hilly except along the towpath where it is flat, and the country roads offer beautiful scenery of the sweeping landscapes. Views over the Potomac are also breathtaking.
