This tour is packed full of history as you leave from the Antietam National Battlefield, a protected area which commemorates the American Civil War Battle of Antietam, travel through paved country roads, visit the Ziem Vineyards, home to a more than two hundred year old barn, and finally visit the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal and Potomac River as you ride along the Canal Towpath on the return trip. Many more historic sites can be seen along the way and guided tours are offered both at the Antietam National Battlefield and at the Ziem Vineyards. The path consists of lightly traveled paved country roads, dirt roads, and the unpaved towpath over flat and rolling terrain.
