This hike is short and steep up the side of South Mountain on the Appalachian Trail to reach an outstanding overlook on Weverton Cliffs that is well worth the effort. The Weverton Cliffs is a tan, quartzite-based sandstone cap rock on the shoulder of the mountain that gives a great vantage point to view the scenic surrounding landscape, especially the majestic Potomac River that flows in the valley below. Along the trail and amongst the trees you will find other unique and beautiful rock structures.
