Gunpowder Falls State Park is one of Maryland’s largest and most dispersed, for it consists of about 17,000 acres of river valley and adjacent uplands spread all over northern and eastern Baltimore County, from tide water to the Pennsylvania border. This route explores the section of the Big Gunpowder River between Harford Road and Belair Road. There is parking at either end of the trail but more parking is available at the Belair Road parking. The trail is almost entirely level, is rocky underfoot, includes many small stream crossings, and runs within a few yards of the river for its entire length, giving great river views and access throughout.
