The Capital Crescent Trail follows the route of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad’s Georgetown Branch rail line of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. The very early part of the trail, the Georgetown Branch Trail, from Silver Spring through Bethesda is on rock and crushed gravel and is in very good shape, although some is slightly rutted out. The rest of the trail is paved. In Georgetown, the trail travels with the Potomac River on one side and the C&O Canal Towpath on the other side. From the trail you will enjoy views, great scenery, lots of wildlife, and towing crews of the Georgetown University.
