Chesapeake City is the western terminus for the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal which dates back to 1661 and was more recently modernized in 1962. The modernization of the C&D Canal is the reason for the restoration of the now bustling Chesapeake City which has comfortable inns, good food, a museum, and a perfect vantage point for watching boats on the bay. The tour begins in Fredericktown and winds through Cecil County on lightly-traveled, paved country roads to visit both the C&D Canal and the quaint Chesapeake City. Many notable historic sites will be seen along the way including, Greenfields, the Worsell Manor, the Bohemia Church, St. Augustine Episcopal Church, and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Beautiful water views of the Sassafras River, Great Bohemia Creek, and the C&D Canal are also displayed.
