Calvert County, named for Maryland’s founding family, is a peninsula bounded by the Patuxent River on the west and Chesapeake Bay on the east. The rural county remains surprisingly close to the way it was when the first settlers came in the seventeenth century, although the tobacco farms that cover its rolling hills are slowly being replaced by housing developments. This tour begins on the ridge between the two bodies of water, you will swoop down to the Patuxent and the historic port of Lower Marlboro and country roads take you back across the county to the Chesapeake Bay and North Beach where there are find opportunities for eating and antiquing. This route consists of paved roads with light to moderate traffic and very hilly terrain with sweeping views of the rolling landscape and beautiful water views.
