Gunpowder Falls is named for the many miles of whitewater upstream of this tidal section. This section lies between US 40, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, and Baltimore and despite its location in such an urban setting, this is a wilderness paddling site. In very little time a kayaker will find scenery that is as wild as anything that can be found in more remote areas. Opportunities to explore abound, as several miles of sloughs, guts, ponds, and rivers wrap around this small section of land. Great opportunities for studying the diverse plant life, observing wildlife, and birding are found on this route.
