Located in Friendsville, this is an especially scenic hike through a thick forested river valley along the Youghiogheny River. As you hike along the river, beautiful tree-covered hills rise steeply around you creating a very isolated and peaceful environment. The area here is known as a “frost pocket”, an area where the surrounding hills capture moisture and cold air that conspire to create a landscape more reminiscent of the habitat found much further north in Canada.
