Maryland has about a dozen wineries as a result of vine cuttings which were smuggled into the state from France during World War II. This tour loops through the rolling farmland of Frederick County near Mount Airy, an area of weathered red barns and small, lively streams, and visits three wineries that offer tours and tastings. You will begin at Linganore Winecellars in Mount Airy and visit the Loew Vineyards and Elk Run Vineyards. You will travel through moderately hilly country side on paved roads, most of which are lightly traveled, where beautiful scenery and vast, rolling landscape provide tranquility for your ride.
