The Pocomoke River and Nassawango Creek are unique to most other waterways in Maryland with a number of critters found here that are not found elsewhere in the state. More than 130 rare, threatened, or endangered inhabitants reside here and the environment is just what southern reptiles and amphibians need. Expect to see many painted turtles, eagles, herons, kingfishers, and many others. As you head up the Nassawango, there is much meandering and only one way in and out so keep to the most obvious areas. Once you reach the bridge on Red House Road, this is about as far upstream as you can paddle.
