This hike is located on Assateague Island and is part of the Assateague Island National Seashore. This is a beautiful place to explore sandy beaches, salt marshes, maritime forests, coastal bays, and an abundance of birds and wildlife. After about six miles of beach you will reach the northern tip of the island with an awe-inspiring view of Ocean City only a few hundred yards across a channelized inlet. One distinct feature of Assateague Island is the herd of ponies that are descendants of the survivors of a seventeenth-century shipwreck and are treated as a wild population.
