This trip leaves from Breezy Point Marina and follows the open shoreline on Chesapeake Bay to Parker Creek. Parker Creek has carved a flat river valley in the middle of the steep sand shores of the Calvert Cliffs formation and is a beautiful wilderness destination. To reach the creek, you must paddle over five miles on the bay, passing cliffs to the west and expansive blue water to the east. There are several small beaches along the way an all are fertile picking grounds for fossilized shark’s teeth. The fetch across this wide distance can create some large swells and breaking surf, and the high cliffs allow little protection from sudden storms. The shores of Parker Creek are composed primarily of thick mud, so you should use the beach for any rest or lunch breaks. The environment changes as you paddle farther upstream and the beauty seems to deepen as well. This is a great area to view wildlife.
