This trip traverses all the surrounding waters of Annapolis, a city of 30,000 on a peninsula that is one of several that create a greater peninsula that contains the extended city of another 70,000 residents. This larger peninsula is formed by the Severn River and the South River, with the bay offering the boundary at the tip. The open water, expansive vistas, and marathon length trip and populated shorelines create a unique route. The water is a great way to explore this city and there are many coves, creeks, and ponds that punctuate the shoreline and allow a closer look. There are excellent swimming beaches, scenic shores, cliffs, views of Thomas Point Lighthouse, and much history to soak up on this trip. Wind generated waves and powerboat wakes can create ocean-like conditions that the paddler must be aware of.
