St. Clement’s Island is the site where the very first white settlers in Maryland landed in March 1634. This tour begins at Christ Church in Chaptico, built in 1736, and cemetery and then heads off following country roads past corn and soybean fields. You will visit one of the oldest extant houses in Maryland, Ocean Hall, visit Bushwood Wharf, and finally reach Coltons Point and St. Clement’s Island. Through the summer months from Memorial Day to October, guided tours are offered of the small island across from Coltons Point. The terrain is mostly flat with a few hills and the roads are quiet, country roads with light traffic.
