Road Biking

This is a great ride in the northern part of Frederick County on rolling, lightly traveled roads that take you through a valley where the distant Blue Ridge Mountains are seen. On this route you will visit three nineteenth-century covered bridges; the Utica Mills covered Bridge, the Loys Station Covered Bridge, and the Roddy Covered Bridge. Besides these historical beauties you will also ride past the Catoctin Mountain Zoological Park, the ruins of an old lime kiln in the Catoctin Furnace area and several fish hatchery ponds. Though many lightly traveled country roads make up most of this ride, there are some very busy roads and traffic involved as well. The trail is not completely flat throughout but there are no significant climbs or descents to report.
