Wye Island is a Natural Resource Management Area and is used for recreational use including agricultural research, hiking, paddling, biking, birding, group camping, and hunting. Paddling around the island is a 14- to 15-mile trip if you resist the urge to explore but there are about 30 miles of shoreline. Take time to wander around the beautiful coves and surrounding creeks where much wildlife exists including raptors, waterfowl, and songbirds, a variety of fish and cownosed rays, fox, turtles, and deer. At low tide there are nice beaches and great places to swim. Along this paddle you will also get a glimpse of the open expanse of the Miles River and Eastern Bay.
