The Whitefish River is a designated Wild and Scenic River that travels through rugged and undeveloped terrain of dense forest and marshlands that are home to lots of wildlife. The river is mostly flatwater with sections of riffles and class I rapids. The river offers the best experience during the spring when the water levels are a little higher and the bugs are less prevalent. There are lots of rocks in the upper reaches of the river that paddlers will need to watch out for as well as some deep holes in the later section. Occasional fallen trees and other natural debris can also prove challenging when floating the Whitefish.
