This trail follows the Skyline trail until you reach the overlook after 6 miles. From there it forks into the David Boren Hiking Trail, marked by red on white blazes. Also referred to as the Deer Crossing Trail, this leg of the hike offers a tranquil hike through pine forest. There is one water crossing at this point but the stream tends to be dry. After crossing the Lookout Mountain trail the climb becomes more strenuous before reaching the Forest Heritage center. Car-Drop is recommended.
