Hosting a kayak race, the Buffalo Bayou is a popular place for all kinds of adventures without leaving the city. For an on-the-water adventure, this route down the meandering river is an excellent choice. The pathway is relatively free of major obstructions with no strainers or other obstacles requiring portage, normally.

I worked as a Kayak guide down this stretch. It is usually very easy for all levels but it can become dangerous for inexperienced people after heavy rain and damn releases due to trees that can fall into the bayou suddenly and create new and unexpected obstacles. Even when this happens experienced people usually don't have trouble getting around the obstacles.
