Beginning The Point overlook, this route follows the Appalachian Trail as it ascends Hazeltop, a towering peak (by Virginia standards) that offers views of the surrounding hills, vermilion with pine and oak in the spring, emblazoned gold in the autumn. Passing through Booten’s Gap and crossing Skyline Drive the trail continues essentially along the ridgeline as it passes by Big Meadows and the famous Lewis Falls trail. Circling around the Big Meadows campground, the route ends at the Fishers Gap Overlook, which offers more splendid views.
