This charming loop hike, though difficult to access (on the dirt Quaker Run Road) follows old fire roads up the ridgeline of Doubletop Mountain and offers great views of surrounding Madison County and Old Rag to the south. Following the heavily forested ridgeline for a time, feel free to take brief detours to explore the interesting geological formations and Tuscarora quartz deposits that jut out from the mountainside. Then, after descending down the hillside, follow Rapidan Road along the Rapidan River on the way back to the parking area.
