Trail Running

Easily one of the most popular hikes in the Shenandoah region, the Lewis Falls Trail begins near the Big Meadows Visitor Center and proceeds to switchback down into the gully and past the numerous rock faces that make Lewis Falls so stunning. Crashing down off the rocks, the trail spur will bring hikers just above the falls. Proceeding on the loop, watch for orchids and other rare flora growing between the trunks of trees, and with luck the multicolored monarch butterflies that pollinate these flowers will show themselves as well. Looping aroundthrough the Big Meadows Campground, the trail will eventually lead back to the parking area.
