Beginning from the Stony Man Overlook on Skyline Drive, this lengthy and strenuous loop begins following the Appalachian Trail towards the Rusher Ridge Trail. After crossing the road and coming onto the Nicholson Hollow Trail, the path begins by descending through the thickly wooded slopes of Thorofare Mountain. After following the Hughes River and taking in the peaceful solace of its gentle cascades, veer right along the Corbin Mountain Trail that offers views of the lowlands as it snakes up along the ridgeline and hugs the contours of the mountain; the trail will eventually arrive back at the Nicholson Hollow Trail leading back toward Skyline Drive.
