Beginning from the parking area on Skyline Drive, the Rocky Mount Trail begins on a steady descent along the ridge line. Soon the path will intersect with the Gap Run Trail, but keep straight to approach the summit of Rocky Mount. After enjoying the views at the summit, following the Rocky Mount Trail as it snakes down into the valley and becomes the Gap Run Trail. As the path runs parallel to the creek, make several adventurous fords before ascending back up to the initial section of the Rocky Mount Trail. This semi-remote section of Shenandoah National Park offers serene and idyllic views far from the more popular and easily accessible parts of the park.
