Offering numerous vistas of the surrounding Piedmont, this semi-strenuous loop around Sky Meadows State Park begins from the Visitor Center and proceeds into the mountains along the Piedmont Overlook Trail. After traversing the pastoral meadows and perhaps spotting complacently grazing cattle along the way, the trail veers left onto the North Ridge Trail into wooded valleys. An optional spur will take adventurers to the Appalachian Trail, and an overlook inside the GR Thompson State Wildlife Management Area. Climbing steadily down out of the mountains, take the Snowden Interpretive Trail spur for a short extra loop before heading back to the parking area. This area is rich with indigenous flora and fauna, including all manner of flowers, deciduous trees, foxes, coyotes, deer, and much more.
