This route follows the Shenandoah Appalachian Trail up from Thornton Gap and switchbacks until it hits the ridge line. After a brief detour to take in the view from Mary's Rock, continue along the ridge line to the Pinnacle. This can be done as a fantastic out-and-back hike, or continued along the AT back to Skyline Drive and the Pinnacle Overlook. For its staggering views and two great summits (by Virginia standards) along a relatively short track, this hike has become a favorite among Shenandoah-goers looking for great views in a short amount of time.
