Silver Lake is large but shallow and marshy. Large swaths of it are covered with lily pads, making for interesting paddling and little motor boat traffic, at least in the quieter north end. The marshy areas are also rich in habitat for several species of birds, fish, frogs, and mammals. There are also views of Mt St Helens and Mt Rainier. A Department of Fish and Wildlife Vehicle Use Permit is required to park at the launching area.
