This ride is partly on-road and partly on a gravel railroad trail that parallels the Pine River. A hundred years ago an Austrian painter settled in the area and claimed to have found a cave on the bluff face with a burial chamber containing exquisite stone and copper work from a vanished race. His claim was supposedly confirmed before the Austrian dynamited the entrance shut. Later, it turned out that the professor, who had supposedly confirmed this claim, actually knew nothing about it. This is the bluff on which you will ride. The roads have a rough surface and steep grades but on the railroad trail it is smooth sailing. There is beautiful scenery atop the bluff and stunning views of the river.
