The last barrier for more than 600 Nez Perce Indians as they fled the US Calvary, Dead Indian Pass was named after they left a wounded warrior on the mountain and he was discovered and killed by Army scouts. This route is a climb beginning in Cody and following Hwy 120 to Hwy 296. The portion on Hwy 120 has a loose shoulder in places, a rumble strip, and fast moving traffic. Once you reach Hwy 296, the ride is great with big switchbacks, nice views, a good road, and light traffic.
