This is a relatively short and easy descent into the historic and scenic Clarks Fork Canyon. When you turn off scenic highway 212 you can drive northeast for a little bit before arriving to the trailhead. The sign may still say that it's 4 miles to the river, but it's actually 4 miles to where you can overlook the river. Then you may decide to make the steep drop down to the rivers edge or even connect to the Clark's Fork Trail.
