Frontier Creek is a scenic backpacking adventure that is best enjoyed by spending multiple days in the area. This route will take you out and back from a mile beyond the Cougar Creek Drainage. You will encounter unique geology including ancient petrified forest remnants. It is both wrong and illegal to remove petrified wood from this area. There are many opportunities to camp or explore surrounding mountains of the Washakie Wilderness. You will have to cross the river within the first mile of the hike which can be cold. Be advised that the water levels can change as snowmelt increases in the afternoon.
