Gardner Lake is a high mountain lake above treeline. It is visible from the highway and trailhead. The hike is a short but steep jaunt that is all downhill to the lake. Because of the high elevation; the lake is above treeline and has open alpine terrain for the entire route. The trail is also the beginning of the Beartooth Loop.
