One of the finest snow climbs in the Tetons, the Northeast Snowfields route on Mount Owen is long and varied. The route begins in the Cascade Canyon and climbs the northeast side of the mountain to the snowfields. There are three major snowfields to cross before reaching the summit. Use caution, as the snow couloirs are funnels for falling rocks. The best conditions to climb the snowfields exist during the late spring, after the avalanche cycle, but it is still cold enough for a hard freeze at night. Crampons and ice axe are needed, along with climbing gear for the up to 5.6 pitches.
