The Guardian is a steep-walled spur at the southeast end of Ram Flat and northeast of Mile Long Lake. The route follows Whiskey Mountain Trail, Simpson Lake Trail and then along Sandra Lake to where it cuts through the canyons to reach the beginning of Ram Flat. Before going on the flat, the route heads southeast next to Mile Long Lake and up the west ridge of The Guardian. Bighorn sheep can often be seen in this area.
