Located in South Mountain park, this loop hike provides hikers with plenty of solitude as well as great scenery of the Phoenix area. The first part of the trail along the Alta Trail is the most challenging and strenuous portion of the hike as it climbs to the highest points of the route where the best views are available. The trail becomes much more relaxing as it starts to drop along the Bajada Trail before returning to the trailhead. There are other access points along the loop providing hikers with the option of covering shorter portions of the trail by shuttling vehicles. The trail surface is packed dirt and gravel. There is very little shade along the trail so avoid hiking during the heat of the summer.
