Climbing Routes

Sullivan Canyon consists of dark colored basalt with steep crack routes and pocketed faces. Lower Sullivan Canyon (Lower Sullies) is located off Highway 89, to the east of the Texaco Station, and down a dirt road called Sweet Valley Road. The routes here are longer and a bit rougher than the routes at Upper Sullivan Canyon. The Big Boned Area has a limestone band, offering a few good quality routes. Be cautious climbing the lower section of limestone though. A standard rack with long slings is recommended. Bolts are situated down low for a stick clip approach. The area is not known to receive a lot of traffic, so most likely you'll be enjoying the day with just your friends. Watch for petroglyphs, and note that bolting face routes is prohibited. Also, be sure to pick up a State Land Recreation Permit from the State Land Department.
