The Desert Park trail is located along the eastern boundary of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve and is a less-crowded option for hikers looking for a scenic desert hike in an urban setting. The trail follows the Desert Park Trail, the Gateway Trail, and the Windgate Pass Trail to complete a loop hike. Half of the hike is outside the preserve boundary and half is within the park. There are other connecting trails along the route that can be used to add mileage to the trip and explore more of the preserve.
