Climbing Routes

The climbing at Virgin River Gorge is bittersweet. It offers some of the best limestone rock you will ever find, but the atmosphere really distracts from the experience. Located right next to the busy interstate is a draw back for many. This is no crag for beginners or first-time climbers. Most routes are in the 12 range and up. There is a sunny side and a shaded side with the prime climbing months from October-April. Parking is at a gravel pullout parking along I-15. Mentor Cave is located on the south side (shaded side) and is the obvious arched looking cave. To reach the south walls follow the trail dropping down towards the river right next to the interstate. Cross under the interstate and head towards the sandy path. There is a short scramble up to the cave. Routes are steep and the classics are Mentor and Brutus.
