Along the shores of Camanche Reservoir is where evidence of the gold rush era still lingers, but far more lies beneath the surface of the water. Since the construction of the earth dam in 1963, the land has been inundated with water and now remains a popular place for recreation equipped with full amenity campgrounds and resorts. There are several inlets and coves to explore and passing views of grassy hillsides filled with wildflowers in spring. This paddle trip begins from the boat launch site, but there is an additional put in/take along the shoreline near Riverview Campground.
