Cosumnes River stretches 80 miles from the Sierra Nevada Mountains in El Dorado National Forest to the Central Valley in Sacramento County. The preserve is a thriving wetland habitat where the banks of the river are lined with large oaks and where many migratory birds call home. Watch out for poison oak, it grows along the banks in the underbrush. The water is calm, but strong currents can occur in winter and spring after heavy rainfall and runoff. The preserve may be closed during these times. In the sloughs, the tide can fluctuate; check ahead to avoid getting stuck. Dogs are not permitted in the preserve.
