Elk Mountain Road (National Forest Route M1) is a south-to-north dirt road that acts as the main access route into the Mendocino National Forest. The dirt road is accessible to street-legal vehicles only but offers access to miles of OHV trails for ATVs, UTVs, and motorcycles. The road is all hard-packed dirt that can get washboarded but is still easily passable for any stock SUV. There are no major obstacles but the road could be tougher to travel during wet conditions.
