Lake Natoma lies just south of Folsom Lake and was created by Nimbus Dam along the American River. The lake runs through the middle of Folsom, but has the feel of seclusion from the lush riparian habitat that surrounds the lake. The only challenges are when water is released from Folsom Dam which causes strong currents to occur. Note the signs at the bridge indicating no entry beyond this point, this marks the boundary of the Folsom State Prison.
