Lakes Trail moderately climbs through a thick forest that doesn't disappear until it reaches exposed granite rock and the high Sierra. It meanders along the rim of a steeply sided canyon where the Tokopah River flows through before it passes several alpine lakes. There are multiple camping sites at Emerald and Pear Lakes to make this day hike into an overnight trip. Check with Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park for required permits.
