Below Millerton Lake is where this paddle trip begins to follow the San Joaquin River as it winds through farmlands on the outskirts of Fresno. The banks are line with trees and riparian vegetation, offering shade on hot summer days. Check the levels of the river before hitting the water; the banks of the river may be flooded, it may be too low, and rapids may be present, yet still manageable in a canoe.
