The hike up Animas City Mountain is a short moderate climb with easy access and rewarding vistas of the Animas River Valley, which is why this trip is a local favorite. The trail makes several switchbacks as it climbs through juniper and ponderosa pine and follows the east rim to the summit where it loops back down the mountains gradual graded southern slopes to the parking area.
