Challenger Point is one of Colorado's 14ers located in the Sangre de Cristo Range. This is a exhilirating backcountry ski experience. Follow the summer trail to Willow Lake, from the east end of the lake the view of Kirk Couloir is in site. Navigate to the base of the couloir and up to the saddle that separates Kit Carson and Challenger. The couloir is steep and narrow but offers the best skiing on Challenger and holds snow into late spring. Bring Crampons, helmet and an axe.
