Crystal River is known for its crystal clear water. It flows swiftly out of the West Elk Mountains. The Avalanche section runs through a canyon setting with continuous class II whitewater. About halfway down lies “The Big One”. This is a challenging rapid through a narrow chute and is rate a class III.
