Situated well above Blue Mesa Reservoir is a geological wonder of Colorado, the Dillon Pinnacles. The pinnacles are composed of breccia that erupted from the West Elk Mountains 30 million years ago, giving evidence of a region that was dominantly shaped by volcanic processes. The trail follows the reservoir and climbs up a Dillon Gulch to an overlook where you'll find excellent views of the pinnacles, West Elk Mountains, and Blue Mesa Reservoir.
