Located in the southwestern part of the Florida Peninsula, the Peace River is one of Florida's major coastal rivers and one of the most popular paddling trails in Florida. The river changes scenery along its course as it passes through both woodland terrain and open pastures, with sections of high banks and deep channels alternating with wider segments and open pools. This section of the Peace River covers over 10 miles between Paynes Creek Historic State Park and the boat ramp at Pioneer Park north of Zolfo Springs. There are a few other access sites located between the put-in and take-out that can be used as alternates to customize a shorter trip if needed.
